Bacillus pumilus is used in agriculture as a biological control agent and biofungicide, helping suppress certain fungal plant diseases, and as a plant-growth-promoting bacterium that can improve root health and nutrient availability. Bacillus pumilus grows best aerobically at moderate temperatures of roughly 30–37 °C and near-neutral pH, though it tolerates a wide range of conditions, including relatively high salt concentrations. It grows readily on standard nutrient media. When nutrients are limited, it forms endospores that withstand heat, desiccation, UV radiation and acid.
